Proud FLEGA member Bazookas presents, in cooperation with the Department of Environment, Nature and Energy (LNE), a brand new educational game that aims at informing people about the issues that exist around bees and other similar animals. The past couple of years bees and other pollinators have had an increasingly hard time surviving.
Beekeepers confirm that more and more of their colonies are dying. Finding the causes for this worrying phenomenon is anything but easy. The opinions and findings of the experts (the beekeepers) differ greatly. There is also little or no real research being done. This has led to a complete lack of scientific knowledge on the subject. One thing is certain however: our modern way of living is putting a lot of stress on our environment.
Last year the LNE department introduced the first ‘Week of the Bee’. Amongst other things, they created a website and educational packets for schools. This year they chose to make a game. The main aim of the game is to engage people and teach them simple ways to adapt their lifestyles and improve our environment one step at a time. In the game the bee can be considered as some sort of mascot for all the pollinators that are in danger of becoming extinct. Through a handful of simple games (based on well-known game mechanisms) and little quizes the player learns more about bees and what he or she can actively do to prevent them from dying.
The complete game is called HiveLife ‘De bijzaak wordt hoofdzaak’ and will be released in September of this year. In the meantime you can enjoy some screenshots of the game.
