It’s time to break your back and crack your oars because Mantis Games is taking to Kickstarter today for their story-driven VR experience Journey for Elysium. In the coming 35 days the team is looking to raise € 20.000 in order to polish up the game and promote it with a wider audience.
If you’re not familiar with the title, Journey for Elysium is an immersive VR experience that draws inspiration from ancient mythology. You play the role of an unnamed warrior that has fallen on the battlefield. After he’s drawn his last breath, he finds himself in a rowboat on a stream between life and death and will have to peddle through the underworld to reach Elysium and finally find redemption.
Living a life of eternal bliss won’t be served to you on a silver platter however. During the journey, players will encounter many perilous obstacles and will often have to go ashore to solve increasingly difficult environmental puzzles. If the idea of sitting in a VR simulated rowboat is already making your stomach weep, rest assured that the developers have planned different traversal methods so there’s a limited risk for players having to find redemption in the closest bathroom.
If you’re willing to part with some coin, there’s a couple of ways to support this beautiful project. The entry level (€ 15) gets you a digital copy of the game two days before the official release. Double that and you get some exclusive extras like a digital art book and soundtrack.
Should you fancy a little lie down in your very own gravestone in the game, you’ll have to go for the VIP package (€ 100) and if you want to get hugged by the entire development team (they’re lovely), they’ll happily fly you over to the beautiful city of Ghent if you go for the top tier (€ 2500). Both hugs and gravestones are limited though, so don’t wait until they’re all gone!
You can find more details (and gorgeous visuals) on the game and campaign on the project page. Not all that glitters is gold, but it sure helps to make gorgeous game experiences, so start pledging already!
