Sad fact: nobody likes the healer. They constantly get bossed around and they often get blamed for, well, everything. Everyone needs them badly, but nobody pays them any sympathy. With the release of Healer’s Quest by Rablogames today on pc, these unsung heroes finally get the fifteen seconds of fame they deserve.
Described as a lighthearted RPG, you will have to play as the titular healer. The game features a lot of funny dialogue and one-liners building on geek stereotypes and genre tropes. Think West of Loathing meets the South Park: The Stick of Truth (sans the raunchy sex jokes) to get an idea of the kind of gags you can expect.
Adding to the comedic effect, your party is a dreadful cast of incompetent adventurers. Keeping them alive while you’re exploring dark dungeons proves more difficult than you’d expect. Luckily, you’ve got a huge arsenal of customisable magic spells to save the day. True to real life, fallen party members will get cranky and become even less useful. You can try and light up their mood with witty dialogue options or by rewarding them with some fine loot.
Largely finishing the game on his own must have been a herculean task for solo developer Pablo Coma and here’s hoping this hard work pays off. Polygon already had some nice things to say about the game, so hopefully that’s a sign of good things to come.
