Big and exciting #BelgianGamesIndustry news today. Our proud member Happy Volcano has raised 2,2 million dollars in a Series A funding round. The money is invested by Hiro Capital, the investment fund behind industry legend Ian Livingstone. This is huge for the studio, who can now completely focus on realising the expanded ambitions of their newest game You Suck at Parking.
But let’s hear it straight from the leads in this story.
Hiro Capital co-founder Ian Livingstone CBE: “Hiro is delighted to be partnering with Happy Volcano to help the studio maximise the potential of its forthcoming release, You Suck at Parking, a quirky physics game which was designed for anybody who might enjoy the hilarious challenges of parking at speed! Hiro’s investment will give the studio the time and resources needed to realise its ambition.”
Happy Volcano Managing Director Jeroen Janssen is understandably pleased with the deal: “Hiro clearly saw the potential of what we do and how we work. That vote of confidence was a huge boost for the entire team. This investment doesn’t just allow us to quickly grow the studio, but it’s the experience and the network Hiro brings to the table that won us over entirely.”
Happy Volcano is just the fourth video game studio to gain support by the fund. Joining the ranks of international succesful studios such as Polyarc (Moss), Flavourworks (ERICA), and Lightfox Games is a big accomplishment and we can’t congratulate them enough on this deal, that was put together in a matter of months.
It’s one of the first times VC-money is being invested in a Belgian video game studio. We keep encouraging our studios to keep looking into these kind of investment opportunities. As Happy Volcano has proven today, it can light the way to a pretty awesome future.
