For a parent, the idea of their child going missing is one of the scariest thoughts possible. Unfortunately, last year Child Focus still recorded nearly 1000 cases of kids running away from home without any sort of plan.
In order to help teenagers aged 13-16, the most vulnerable group, understand the consequences of their reckless action, proud FLEGA member Bazookas (link in Dutch) has teamed up with Child Focus to create the mobile serious game Missing (link in Dutch). A detective game where you go looking for your missing friend Isaac, the game has players digging up events that led to his disappearance.
You’ll have to piece together bits of info you gather from different people and places. In the conversations with various characters you’ll learn about the real-world importance of a confidant and get introduced to some authorities and procedures you can fall back on. As a result, the writing is a bit on the nose at times, but overall the game manages to paint a vivid image of the panic a missing person causes in his environment.
With the game Child Focus hopes to diminish the romanticism surrounding the subject and convey the message that fleeing from your problems can be far more dangerous than tackling them with the help of the right people.
Missing can be downloaded on Google Play or the App Store for free.
